The Office of the Vice President for Development (OVPD) recently conducted a site visit to the UP Laguna Land Grant (LLG) in Pangil, Laguna, on 14 August, 2025. The delegation, led by Assistant Vice President Fernando Paras, Jr., collaborated with specialists from BlueCap Hydro, a Dutch firm specializing in micro-hydropower technology.
The team assessed a potential location for a micro-hydro pumped storage (MHPS) system, which aims to provide a sustainable electricity source for the LLG station house and the surrounding community. This initiative showcases the university’s dedication to exploring renewable energy solutions and harnessing its natural resources for community benefit.
The group, which included Assistant Vice President Fernando O. Paras, Jr., Engr. Alvin Joseph Dolores, Engr. Toni-An Mae Salcedo, and Mr. Julius Vasquez from the OVPD; Mr. Jesus Francisco Gabriel Delgado, Mr. Thomas Wansink, and Mr. Mark Morales from BlueCap Hydro; and LLG Field Manager Pablo Quilao, hiked approximately one kilometer upstream from the station house to reach the potential site for the MHPS installation. This on-site assessment underscores the comprehensive due diligence being conducted for the project.
The UP Laguna Land Grant (LLG) is a testament to the success of dedicated conservation efforts. Its lush, well-preserved forest stands out for its remarkable condition, a direct result of the diligent work of the UP Land Grant Forest Guards. These rangers play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the ecosystem, ensuring it remains well-protected and conserved for future generations. Their commitment to preserving this natural resource allows the forest to thrive as a vital part of the local environment.
